Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer Review

Sole E95 Elliptical TrainerHello Readers,

In case you haven’t noticed, I have made a foray in to other treadmill and elliptical brands. I’ve also started reviewing exercise bikes. Look for a greater diversity of treadmill brands in the pipeline! Okay, let’s get down to business. Here is my review of the Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer.

Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer Review
Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer Rating:
1 star out of 5 for being identical to the Sole E55 but costing a lot more.
Price: $Arm, Leg, and Firstborn

I could talk about how the Sole E95 Elliptical has an extremely solid frame. I could mention that a 400 lb. user should have no problems with the “quakes”, the very scientific term (Yes, I said scientific.) I use to describe fitness equipment with unstable frames that rattle and shake when being used. There’s also the enormous selection of user programs. (I think Sole has some of the better heart rate control fitness programs right now.) But I’m not going to talk about those things because there is a single fundamental flaw in the Sole E95 Elliptical Trainer. It has nothing to do with design or malfunctions, but everything to do with the dreaded marketing department.

Ah yes, the marketing department; the people who foul up just about any product or company with a stroke of a pen. I have had plenty of clashes with these guys myself and if you have ever worked in corporate America you probably have too. Unfortunately, it looks like the marketing department decided to take the Sole E55 and slap a Sole E95 sticker on it and charge about $250 more for it.

Let’s compare the specs for a second so this
Sole E95 Review makes sense.

As you can see, the specifications are nearly identical from the resistance levels to the built in MP3 player. The big difference is weight capacity and price. There’s a 25 lb. weight capacity difference between the Sole E55 and the Sole E95. Is that really worth paying an extra $250 more for? I can’t recommend the Sole E95 in good faith despite the fact that it is a well made elliptical trainer. The only thing Sole can do to appease the Treadmill Master is lower the price $250. Until I see that happen, go with the Sole E55 guys, you’ll be getting your moneys’ worth.

The better buy by far is the
Sole E55 Elliptical Trainer.

Just wanted to say as an engineer that adding 25lbs extra weight capacity to a dynamic contraption like this could add a decent bit of cost to beaf up things here and there even though it might look mostly the same.

Don't trust an engineer that spells 'beef' wrong.

Thanks for the effort with these posts, they're very helpful!

Well Mr. Beafy Engineer,

The point of the post was highlighting that you're paying a whole lot of extra money for practically nothing at all.

Dear Reviewer,

If you actually looked at the two machines, you would see that there are several differences not reflected in the specifications you chose to compare. For example, the e95 has improved hand grips, improved display and improved screw-drive adjustable foot beds. Also, since the weight carrying capacity is higher, it is likely that the frame is heavier.

Also, your specs aren't even correct, because the e95 has a flywheel that is 2 pounds heavier (29 pounds vs 27 pounds on the e55). The e95 weighs 15 pounds more than the e55 so there is some extra steel in there somewhere.

If you read the description, and not just the specs sheet - you would have noticed a difference in the flywheel weight. (kinda your fault for not doing your homework and Sole's fault for not listing it in the spec sheet):

E25: 23 lb. flywheel
E35: 25 lb. flywheel
E55: 27 lb. flywheel
E95: 29 lb. flywheel
